David Malaker born 1992 Kolkata, India completed his graduation from Government College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta and his post-graduation from Banaras Hindu University. His recent paintings explore the night scenes, the enigma of darkness lit by the light of the yellow lamp. Working mainly with charcoal and pastel on paper, he portrays the nocturnal sights mixed with imagination and fantasy. The myriad appearances of the world in the darkness have found stories and meaning in his paintings, which offer a deeper understanding of our contemporary time. David has exhibited his works in his solo show at the Society of Contemporary Artists’ gallery. He participated in many group shows including: Emerging Palette at Shirsti Art Gallery, Hyderabad 2019; Sixty Years of the Society of Contemporary Artists at Akar Prokar, Kolkata 2019; Scholars’ Exhibition at Lalit Kala Akademi, Kolkata 2019. He was awarded National Award by the Government of India in 2020; Finext Award, Bhopal, in 2020; Bronze Medal by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation in 2018; Rajya Charukala Puraskar, Government of West Bengal, in 2017 and Birla Academy award in 2017.
