Emami Art presented a group exhibition at the India Art Fair, 2023, featuring new works by ten contemporary artists. The show revolved around artistic practices based on a broad, open framework grounded in vernacular cosmopolitanism. It proposes a wide arc of explorations and connections of radical local relevance, such as agrarian politics to the dynamics of global issues like sustainability.
The presentation at the IAF 2023 included the powerful work of mid-career artists like Arindam Chatterjee, Prasanta Sahu and Soma Das, while showcasing a group of young emerging talents like Arpita Akhanda, Ali Akbar PN, Debashish Paul, Ghana Shyam Latua, Janhavi Khemka, Shilpi Sharma and Ujjal Dey, offering new perspectives and discovery.
The booth also showcased works in diverse mediums, such as works on canvas and paper (Prasanta Sahu & Arindam Chatterjee), textile (Ujjal Dey), ceramics (Shilpi Sharma), printmaking (Janhavi Khemka), paper weaving (Arpita Akhanda. Akhanda was one of the IAF 2022 artists in residence), tempera painting (Soma Das), collages and artist book (Ali Akbar P N) and pin-prick drawing on paper (Ghana Shyam Latua). For the first time, Emami Art will also present video and photographic works, drawings and sculptural dress engaging in issues of body, gender and identity by artist Debashish Paul. Paul has been selected as one of the artists in residence at the India Art Fair 2023 and will also be performing a new performance piece, “Me with my Pets”, at the India Art Fair ground and the French Institute Delhi.
The Emami Art booth offered a vibrant visual space affirming the plurality of approaches and themes and the ever-changing nature of contemporary art.
