KCC and Emami Art present Crossroads, an artist talk by Debsuddha, the second chapter of Photoflux, an ongoing initiative on thinking through photography and the photographic image.
Crossroads began with years spent alongside my aunts, Gayatri and Swati Goswami. Born with albinism, they have long negotiated the social and psychological margins. Photographed across more than a decade, the project emerged through repeated visits, where the camera became a witness to the passage of time, intimacy, and everyday life. What unfolds is a sustained meditation on sisterhood, sanctuary, and belonging, set within the 19th-century North Calcutta home the sisters have inhabited for most of their lives.
In this talk, Debsuddha traces the life of the project, from first encounter to photobook, reflecting on intimacy as a method, on how proximity and patience reshape what photography can hold and how, surreptitiously, the archive becomes alive. The presentation will move between the personal archive, the making of the book, and the questions that remain open: about home, about care, about what it means to photograph lives lived at the margins of visibility, especially when, to which the figure of the photographer is so acutely attached.
