In her artistic practice, artist Ruma Choudhury has successfully extracted 34 different fibres from various natural sources to construct the material base for her organic paper works. Taking inspiration from her works at her upcoming solo at Emami Art, কাগজ কথা (Stories of Paper) is a workshop by Emami Art in collaboration with Kolkata Centre for Creativity that delves into how 2 such fibres can be transformed into sheets of handmade paper.
Beyond the papermaking process, participants of this hands-on workshop will learn about what influences Choudhury’s works and get introduced to handmade paper as a medium of environmental awareness and archive, where time, nature, and material come together. This event is a public-facing programme under Ruma Choudhury’s debut solo Elemental Encounters: Practice as Ecological Archive (8 August – 18 September 2026) at Emami Art.
Participants are required to carry hand towels of their own. All other materials will be provided.
