Emami Art presents a performance by Shibayan Halder as part of Insubordinate Matter – the exhibition under IMAGINARIUM 6.0, Emami Art’s Annual All-India Open Call for Young and Emerging Artists.
The Lament of Nature emerges from the artist's intimate memories of her native village, the familiar smell of the soil, and his experiences of agrarian life. Through physical actions and gestures of labour, this work explores the changing relationship between humans, land, and nature. In the name of development, land acquisition and the use of chemical pesticides are eroding soil fertility and biodiversity. Many species have disappeared, while others are continuously vanishing. Farmers are migrating to urban areas in search of livelihoods. In this performance, through personal memories and embodied actions, the body becomes a living witness to ecological degradation, labour, resistance, and the gradual severing of humanity’s shared roots in the land and nature.
Insubordinate Matter | IMAGINARIUM 6.0 is on view till 26 December 2026 at Emami Art.
