The Afterlife of Image: Painting bodies, memory, and abstraction with Sayanee Sarkar

27 June 2026

Date: Saturday, 27 June 2026

Time: 12:00 – 4:00 PM

Venue: Emami Art, Ground floor, Gallery 2

Recommended age: Anyone over 18 years of age

Artist Sayanee Sarkar’s work is often driven by the use of found and personal imagery, be it from social media, film stills, or photographs taken by herself. Taking inspiration from her works on display at Emami Art, this workshop by Emami Art in collaboration with KCC aims to explore the afterlife of images through painting and stain-making

This workshop is a public-facing programme under Sayanee Sarkar’s debut solo Alchemy of Absolute Intimacy on view till 10 July 2026 at Emami Art. We offer the attendees a rich opportunity to learn about what influences Sarkar’s works, get introduced to the world at the edge of representational art moving into abstraction, and experiment with the interplay of positive and negative space in their own creative practice.

Beginners are welcome.

Participants are required to carry the following:

  1. Found or personal figurative imagery (social media images or film stills or photographs taken by themselves) -- in the form of either soft or hard copies.
  2. A 2-inch flat brush

All other materials will be provided.
