Step into the stories behind the photographs with Kushal Ray at শহর শোনার আসর, a special event presented as part of his solo exhibition, শহরনামা | Calcutta 1990–1993. On 28 August 2026, 5:30–6:30 pm, Ray will revisit the images through the memories of their making, revealing the encounters, observations and lived experiences that shaped them. One of Kolkata's most significant photographers, Ray's reflections offer a rare glimpse into a practice built over decades through patience, proximity and an enduring engagement with the city's everyday life.

As part of শহরনামা | Calcutta 1990–1993, Kushal Ray's solo exhibition at Emami Art, শহর শোনার আসর brings audiences into conversation with one of Kolkata's most dedicated photographic chroniclers. Taking place on 28 August 2026, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, the session invites Ray to revisit the photographs through the stories behind them: the circumstances of their making, the people and places encountered along the way, and the moments that remained with him long after the shutter was released. A journalist-turned-photographer whose practice has consistently centred on the everyday, Ray has spent decades building an extraordinary visual archive of the city and its inhabitants. Through these personal recollections, audiences will discover not only the images on display but also the patience, curiosity, attentiveness and humanist spirit that have shaped his remarkable photographic practice.
