The Shape of Memory
The presentation brought together the works of three young emerging artists hailing from West Bengal, India, whose complex practices trace their personal relationships with the act of memory-making. Titled The Shape of Memory, the booth featured works by Arpita Akhanda (1992), Debashish Paul (1994) and Ujjal Dey (1992).
The works ranged from performative photography printed on archival paper, cut into strips and woven into large-scale paper tapestries by Arpita Akhanda. Photographs of a recent performance by Debashish Paul based on queer identity where he made his own sculptural dresses and performed on-site, and his drawings on paper. Fibre and natural dye, and stitch works by Ujjal Dey.
