Emami Art’s presentation at Art Mumbai 2026 brings together 18 artists whose practices engage with a wide range of materials, techniques and visual languages. Spanning painting, drawing, sculpture and interdisciplinary practices, the selection considers how material choices shape artistic expression, with artists drawing on organic substances, industrial materials, paper-based processes and unconventional combinations of media to explore questions of memory, identity, labour and the natural world.

Anjan Modak’s densely worked drawings and paintings, alongside wall sculptures draw on the physicality of materials to depict the precarious lives of working-class communities. Arindam Chatterjee's expressive visual language moves between figuration and abstraction, confronting violence, suffering and the contradictions of contemporary life. For Arpita Akhanda, material becomes a means of reconstructing personal and collective histories as she works on paper weavings, in which fragments are interlaced to create layered, disrupted images. Arunima Choudhury approaches painting through an engagement with natural processes, bringing artistic practice into dialogue with indigenous techniques and the relationship between humans and the environment. Manmita Ray, in contrast, works with beeswax, ink, oil and clay to develop intricate botanical forms that move between the recognisable and the imagined. Mitali Das constructs dreamlike, fable-like worlds populated by female figures, plants, flowers and animals that explore feminine subjectivity and the subconscious. Partha Pratim Deb moves between painting and drawing, creating forms that blend action and conception, abstraction and figuration. Pradip Das uses experimental materials and research-led approaches to examine Bengal’s cultural histories, migration and displacement. Prasanta Sahu engages with painting and research-based visual practices to examine agrarian life, landscape and the relationships between knowledge, agency and power. Raja Boro uses layered printing techniques to create finely graded landscapes, village scenes and forest imagery in woodcut, informed by a contemplative engagement with nature. Rahul Sarkar develops a distinctive visual language through painting and material experimentation – his radically autobiographical image-making reflecting his experiences as an androgynous person. Sayanee Sarkar's works on raw canvas and wood investigate the unstable relationship between the body, its surroundings and perception. Sibaprasad Karchaudhuri translates geometric forms, broken lines and colour fields into compositions that bridge abstraction, textile traditions and lived experience. Soma Das in her wood and metal works develops figurative compositions that draw on domestic spaces, everyday encounters and the lives of women and children. Suman Dey manipulates formal elements, shapes, materials and colour to construct compositions that explore the expressive possibilities of non-representational art. Tapas Biswas combines sculptural traditions with experimental construction, using wooden fragments and metal elements to create fluid forms that reinterpret figurative sculpture. Ujjal Dey draws on South Asian textile traditions, kantha stitching, natural pigments and ritualistic practices to explore ecology, landscape and cultural memory. Vishal Kumar Gupta's impasto paintings engage with landscape, ecological transformation, and the histories embedded in the natural world.

This selection, featuring distinct approaches to materials and processes, brings together artists working across different generations and trajectories, allowing varied approaches to image-making, surface, texture and form to exist in conversation.
